Hands On To The Gaming Laptop Asus ROG G751JY

One of Asus’s freshly released gaming laptops, the ASUS ROG G751 has been released this year and this time we got the chance to get our hands on this terrific machine.

The notebook has some serious hardware inside, so let us list the specifications here; we will speak about them thoroughly later. Starting with the graphics card, which is an NVIDIA GTX 980M, 32 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7 4860HQ quad-core CPU and tons of free space guaranteed by hard or soft disk.

Before going in the details, let us see in the history of the company that is behind this brand new gaming laptop. Asus was founded in 1989, and the company is a Taiwan based computer component manufacturer. If we check 2014’s indexes, Asus will have been measured the fifth biggest PC manufacturer in the world. “You would say, only the fifth? That’s not a big accomplishment…” I would say in response to that, that you are wrong. It is a huge accomplishment to be “only” the fifth in a niche where there is tons and tons and bigger and huger competitors. It is easy to be a winner in a not so difficult category. For example, which would you say the bigger accomplishment it is? Being the first in a countryside football competition where there are only three opponents, or being the seventh in Seria A? If you have the wits that has needed for this task, you would say that the latter is better.

Asus has become to be known of the quality of their products. Why? Because they only make cheap, low-quality goods? No, the opposite, they make one of the best quality PC components in the whole world. Of course, if we exclude other species that we do not know and are living on other planets.

Inside the Hardware

We have only listed the components of the G751 at the beginning of our article; let us take a closer look in them now.

The Intel i7 4860HQ CPU seems a quite fine for high-end games, however, I would have chosen a better processor for a high-end laptop with more cores preferably. The notebook has such serious hardware, so there is a big chance that the CPU will bottleneck the performance of the graphics card.

The NVIDIA GTX 980M is an extremely good video card for a gamer laptop. Being one of the best graphics cards on the market, this beast will do everything for the notebook to handle the newest games in the most brutal graphics settings!

The 32 GB RAM is more than enough for a gaming notebook. The more, the better, however, it seems too much memory for me to put in a laptop. It does not necessarily improve the performance, although it costs tons of money. 16 GB of RAM would be enough for this device.

The laptop has a 512 MB SSD in it along with and 1TB hard disk. These disks will serve gaming purposes pretty well!

Performance

The laptop’s hardware ensures serious performance in gaming, however, as I have said before; the CPU is constantly bottlenecking the other components of the device. Although the CPU is pretty “powerless” compared to the other hardware, the notebook still shows good (not great) performance with high-end games.

The Pros and Cons

The Asus ROG G751JY seems to be a good gaming laptop. However, it is not close to a top notch machine. The hardware is great in the device; the only downside with it is the CPU, since it is weak if you compare it to the other components.

Another negative of the notebook is the battery power since it is quite low. You need to play on a lower brightness level in order to keep the device running for at least 5-6 hours. However, this is not a big problem since most gamers play at home, so they plug in their devices.

The Asus ROG G751 is expensive if we check out the price of the device. However, almost all gaming laptops are quite highly priced, so you will not necessarily find a cheaper notebook in this category with hardware like this. Therefore, in general, I think, the ROG G751JY has some downsides, but it is well worth the price that you pay for it!
