Asus has introduced the brand new Asus Flip, which is a 2 in 1 convertible Chromebook. What is a Chromebook? Chromebooks are notebooks with Google’s relatively new OS specially designed for laptops. It works with the use of the Chrome browser; the system is based on Google’s internet browser, so it can work even faster with lower hardware requirements. The Chromebooks have a huge potential since they are the cheapest notebooks on the market since they don’t need serious hardware to run fast thanks to Google’s operating system. Some are cheaper than a tablet (especially, if the tablet is an iPad Air 2).
Asus is one of the most respected companies in the PC world. You would ask why. I would answer because they are just simply making quality products for a reasonable price. They usually offer lots of years in the warranty time. However, the company’s products are famous for their durability and stability. They don’t usually break down, so that’s why Asus is always offering a minimum of 2 years warranty on their product; they simply don’t need to be repaired, since they are high-quality goods.
Asus has invested some money in building Chromebooks to drop them on the market and sell them. The company has seen the potential in the OS, so they started to build computers (laptops) on it. They have previously revealed the specs and the release date of the upcoming Asus Chromebook 15 this year. However, there’s a new product coming in, the Asus Flip.
The Asus Flip will reflect very great things that the company has been into. The Chromebook “idea”, the investment and the development of the operating system and the convertibility of the company’s notebooks. The company has been experimenting with different new types of 2 in 1 laptops, such as the Asus Transformer Books. As Asus has seen that those laptops were quite successful, they started investing in this quite new technology, which most probably will be pretty useful for end users. People can use these kinds of products as a single notebook and a tablet too, so if they want to use both, they don’t have to buy them separately, which would be a waste of money. No, they just simply flip the screen to the other side and use it as a tablet, or just, like in the case of the Transformer Books, remove the screen from the keyboard and use it as a separate device.
The Asus Flip comes with a Rockchip 3288 CPU, 4GB Ram and 16GB SSD. Yes, we all know that the processor’s manufacturer is not a well known one, like Intel, however, it is more than enough for a Chromebook. The central processing unit is 2GHz fast and has four cores, so it’s a quad-core ARM-based CPU, it’s not really bad, the best word for it would be: sufficient.
The screen of the device is 10.1 inches big, and it comes with a 1280 x 800 IPS resolution. It is obvious why the company has chosen this resolution and size for the display. As it can be used as a tablet too, the device shouldn’t have to have a big, high-resolution screen, since a normal resolution rate is more than enough and if it were bigger, it would be really heavy and uncomfortable for end users who want to use the gadget as a tablet mainly.
The Asus Flip comes at a price of 250 dollars, which is, in my opinion, pretty great for a laptop. Just check out its hardware, where can you get a notebook with a quad core CPU and 4GB Ram for 250 bucks? You can hardly find a good quad core tablet for that price.
Verdict
The Asus Flip 2 in 1 convertible Chromebook is expected to be released late spring this year. I wish the best for Asus, I hope this upcoming device will do its best in sales. This Chromebook is what people need. It’s affordable, normally priced (not overpriced), comfortable to use and pretty fast. And, of course, the device is made from high-quality components since Asus always cares for that. Looking forward to the release of the device, we will see what will happen then!
