IBM presented the new foundation called the Internet of Things. This new foundation will help companies develop applications. The newly presented foundation will offer services to developers which include a set of application programming interfaces which are specially designed to make the process of accessing data from all those devices which are connected online easy and simple. Basically this would help to use the data for business purposes.
We are well aware of the fact that there are over one hundred protocols which devices use in order to communicate. By the end of the day, that becomes “Tower of Babylon”. Research clearly show that by the year of 2020, there are going to be approximately 28 billion Internet of Things devices, from an estimated 9 billion we have nowadays. The new platform will be a place which will serve and help business and industries to use information in a meaningful way, from which their business will benefit greatly. If businesses would only connect data and would not do anything about it, then what’s the point? Internet of Things is here to make better use of data and information.

Over a period of time, it will lean on info from cars and intelligent phones. The intent is to create a perfect combination of all the data and then to provide the businesses with perfect weather info in order to decide better and enhance business.
Government, companies that deal with insurance or power all need and rely on weather conditions. By combining the knowledge from IMB with the data from the Weather Company, companies will be able to create apps whose purpose will be using the information in a correct way.
The introduction of the Internet of Things creates a much bigger picture. Having Apple and Twitter as partners are crucial for success. Data processing, analytics and cloud strategy contribute towards that bigger picture and help businesses grow and evolve. IBM needs to attract developers who share the same vision and help build a platform from which many will profit. Many companies would like to become platform giants like IBM. However, that requires a lot of work and patience. We will have to wait and see what time will tell.
