Introduction
There have been tons of apps for smartphones and tablets, however, we don’t really had so many apps for the brand new wearable technology yet. However, lately, companies are striving to make applications for smartwatches since they have realized that those products could be used in a different way than smartphones or tablets. Volvo has done so too, the automobile manufacturer giant has announced that they are launching an upgraded version of the On Call app for Android Wear, Apple Watch, to smartphones (including the Windows Phone OS) and to tablets.
The Volvo on Call App
We can state that automobile manufacturer firms are pretty active in the area of wearables. Just check out Mini who has signed an agreement and started a project together with Qualcomm to make the first augmented smartglass that has been designed primarily for driving purposes. There are plenty of companies in this area of business who have been making several projects that has involved smartglasses and wearable gadgets. Volvo has been doing so with its On Call application. The app has been released once, however, it was not the best so Volvo decided to make a major upgrade for the software. When they have started doing so they have realized that they can even make a version of the program for products that are trending now, for wearable devices. So, Volvo has decided to design the On Call Application for the Apple Watch and Android Wear too. They have also included full support of the Windows Phones operating system, which has been quite unpopular in the last years, however, more and more apps are released for the OS nowadays. However, we don’t really want to speak about the operating system that has been designed by Microsoft, but the new features that will be released in the new version of the On Call app for it. Volvo has done a major upgrade for smartphones since there will be a voice control system that will be done through Cortana, which has been proved that it has been far more superior than the popular app, Siri. In addition to all that, Volvo will release a full user interface for the Apple iPad, which will also improve the user experience in the new version.
We have talked about Volvo’s smart application’s new version, what Volvo is planning to upgrade compared to the previous version of the app, however, what we have not mentioned is why is this application useful. So, here comes the question: why is it useful? And here comes the answer too for that question: the Volvo application is designed for controlling certain settings of your car (of course if you have a Volvo auto), such as the locking or unlocking of your vehicle. This could be pretty useful in many ways. Just let’s concentrate on the locking and unlocking function of your car. For that purpose you have to bring a key for yourself to do so, right? Now, with Volvo’s brand new upgraded application, your only job is to have your smartwatch on, so you can unlock and lock your car. This will not only be more comfortable for users, but it will be even more secure. Why am I saying this? Just compare that you have to bring a key with yourself to a watch. Your watch is always on your wrist, or it is on your wrist most of the time, right? Now, considered these two options, in my opinion, it is much safer to use your watch as your “car locker” than a key.
